2013 has been challenging year for Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj UK. The association has done remarkably well achieving wonderful results to help poor people in their villages in Nepal and looking after their community in UK. The main activities are highlighted below.
1. Annual Charity dinner night 13 (Jan 13)
Since the first successful Charity Dinner Night in 2010, it became customary not only for raising the fund but also a good platform to promote social integration between British and Nepalese public. As every year this event was organised in extra ordinary fashion which was attended by high dignitaries from British and Nepalese communities.
2. Awards and appreciations (Jan 13)
The Char Bhanjyang Academic Award (CBAA) was presented by Hon Lt Chandra Bahadur Gurung in Nov 2011. This award was introduced to encourage the children of Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj UK to do well in the education field. This year Miss Rajani Gurung (D/O Mr Nar Bdr and Mrs Apsara Gurung) secured the award with 5 A*s, 7As.
An appreciation for the Good Community Work was presented to the founder chairman of CBTSUK Lt Narayan Psd Gurung BEM and True and Professional Journalism was presented to Mrs Nina Gurung the founder of Gurkhas.com.
3. Charity Number Registration with Charity Commission UK
After a gruelling six months of hard work and several constitution amendments, CBTSUK is finally recognised by Charity Commission UK as Charitable organisation. CBTSUK is proud of it’s achievement and valuable status which is recognised by the UK government body.
4. Opening Ceremony of Char Bhanjyang Centre for Health (CBCH) and Swinfen House – Mar-Apr 13
Since the project started in Nov 12 with the foundation stone laid by Lady Swinfen, much awaited day finally arrived. On 30th Mar 13 ,the Right Honourable Lord Roger and Lady Pat Swinfen, with delegation from UK and Hong Kong arrived at TIA Kathmandu. They were welcomed by the members of CBTS Kathmandu, Pokhara and villagers. On 3rd Apr 13 the clinic and Swinfen house was jointly opened by Rt. Hon the Lord Roger, Lady Pat Swinfen and their son Honourable Charles Eady with special ritual ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Chief District Officer, Rt. Hon Prof Ganesh Gurung and other high level dignitaries.
This clinic is equipped with advance medicine technology Telemedicine link, modern communication and facilities in the building. Please note that this Telemedicine clinic was built from the financial support of Swinfen Charitable Trust UK and 15000 people around Southern Parbat will be taking advantage of this clinic.
5. Reception at House of Lords – May 13
Since 2010, members of Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj UK were invited to the Reception at House of Lords on 9th of May. It was a great privilege and wonderful opportunity to socialise and extend good relations with high level dignitaries.
6. Gurkha Cup – May 13
Is has become customary for CBTSUK to coordinate VIP and guest reception on Gurkha Cup. As usual Ama group of CBTSUK hosted numbers of guest which included high level dignitaries from the local British and Nepalese communities.
7. Telemedicine Clinic Project final meeting with Donors – Jun 13
The final meeting for Telemedicine Clinic Project took place on Sat 22 Jun at Folkstone which was kindly organised by Association Vice Chairman Mr Gyam Gurung. The Chairman CBTSUK and Coordinator of CBADP Hon Lt Chandra Gurung presented 20 pages reports to the donors. The meeting concluded that the project was highly successful. The clinic now owns 17 Ropanis of surrounding area. It currently employs 3 medical staffs, 2 security guards, 1 manager and 1 care taker totalling 7 staffs. Total project cost was Rs 60 Lakhs. Donors were so delighted with the project and committed to provide further assistance.
8. 3rd Executive Committee Election – 30 Jun
The CBTSUK 3rd Executive Committee Election, held at Maidstone was organised by General Secretary Mr Hari Gurung and Assistant Secretary Mr Shuk Bdr Gurung. The election committee was formed under the Chairmanship of Mr Purandhoj Gurung with the following members and advisers:
After long consultation and exchanges with association members, the election committee decided to extend the tenure of current executive committee for another 3 years with minor changes.
9. AGM and Annual Bhela – Jul 13
CBTSUK Annual General Meeting and get together took place on 27th Jul. The AGM was opened by founder of Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj Mr Narayan Konme Tamu and senior citizen/social worker Mr Tek Bahadur Gurung by lighting the candle. The trustees of Char Bhanjyang Centre for Health were felicitated by the Chief Guest President of NRN Mr Kul Acharya and President of TDUK Mr Kamal Gurung.
10. Nepali Mela – Aug 13
Nepali Mela this year was extra special for CBTSUK. The Mela was coordinated by CBTSUK Vice Chairman Gyam Gurung. All members of association fully supported the event to make it successful. As usual CBTSUK hosted the VIPs and guests for the event. CBTSUK members including youths took part in Jhanki with traditional dresses and dances. This year CBTSUK youths took part in Nepali Mela open dance competition with an extraordinary dance Manjushree, illustrating our religion, culture and tradition. With the clear majority of the judges and spectators, CBTSUK youths (Miss Sophiya, Shradha and Prabina) were chosen the winner of the competition.
11. Medicine support to Char Bhanjyang Centre for Health (CBCH) from International Health Partners – Sep 13
The first international drugs and medicine supplied by the International Health Partners arrived at CBCH, Khalte, Parbat. These drugs arrived through the support of Swinfen Charitable Trust UK. It is hoped that these high class medicine will give our poor people a good medical care.
12. Europe’s top Neurologist’s visit CBCH patients – Sep 13
Patients of CBCH were fortunate enough to be seen face to face by the top neurologist of Europe Prof Victor Patterson. Prof Patterson was providing medical advises to these patients through the Telemedicine and Video link from Khalte. On his recent visit to Nepal on 8th Sep, he was keen to travel to Khalte and see these special cases but due to the bad road condition he could not travel. However, he kindly spared time to see five specialist cases in Pokhara who were brought from CBCH Khalte, Parbat. He was very impressed with CBCH for being able to handle such specialist cases from the remote part of the country and said “it is a Ground Breaking”.
13. CBCH patients are blessed by the specialist from around the world:
CBCH patients are so fortunate that they can be looked after by the top medical advisors around the world. Mr Givinda Psd Subedi, 41, is Psychiatric patient who was seen by Prof Patterson. Now he is looked after by top Australian Psychiatrist Prof Geoff Riley. Govinda needs medicine for life time but he is so poor he can not afford it. Now through the Swinfen Charitable Trust UK, Prof Geoff Riley is providing medication for him. Similarly, nine months old child who has complicated medical problem is looked after by child specialist Dr Imelda Hughes who is a Paediatric neurologist.
14. Nurse Course Sponsored by donors
Miss Annu Gurung of Char Bhanjyng area Khalte is sponsored by Lt Col Lynda Bardell who is the medical adviser of Char Bhanjyang Centre for Health. Annu will study 4 years full Nursing course in Narayani Technical Collage Hetaiunda. After the completion of course, she will be working at least 5 years for the clinic.
15. CBTSUK Constitution 1st Amendment
The 1st amendment of CBTSUK constitution took place on 3rd Aug 13 under the chairmanship of CBTSUK founder chairman Lt Narayan Psd Gurung and founder of CBTS/constitution amendment committee adviser Mr Narayan Konme Tamu MA. In order to address many changes in the association’s rules and regulation, since its establishment, the constitution had to be changed.
16. BUPA Great South Run – Oct 13
A group of Ama and youths of CBTSUK took part in 10 Miles BUPA Great South Run on 27th Oct 13. They were raising much needed fund for Char Bhanjyang Centre for Health and Swinfen Charitable Trust UK. The raised money will buy medical equipments and drugs. 11 youths took part last year in the same run and raised £6037 for the clinic and Swinfen Charitable Trust UK.
CBTSUK and Donors meeting – Nov 13
A meeting between CBTSUK and Swinfen Charitable Trust UK took place on 16th Nov at 28 Coombe Road, Maidstone. This meeting was kindly hosted by CBTSUK Gen Sec Mr Hari Gurung. Meeting was attended by the Lord Roger, Lady Pat Swinfen and other officials. A progress report was presented by the association Chairman Hon Lt Chandra Gurung. Lord and Lady Swinfen praised staff at Telemedicine Clinic and members of Char Bhanjyang for all the selfless hard work. The Swinfen Charitable Trust UK will continue to provide further improvement and developments of the clinic.
Rt Hon Lord and Lady Swinfen were welcomed by Mrs Laxmi Gurung (Adviser CBTSUK) Mr Hari, Mrs Sandhya Gurung and members of the association.
