Roger Mynors Swinfen Eady is the 3rd Baron Swinfen. He is the son of the 2nd Baron Swinfen and the Novelist Mary Wesley. Who was born on 14 December 1938. He is a British peer and succeeded his father’s title in 1977. He was educated at Westminster School and at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and served then in the Royal Scots as an Officer. He is one of the 90 hereditary peers elected to remain in the House of Lords after the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999. Since 1962, he has been marred to Patricia Anne Blackmore (Lady Pat Swinfen). They have 3 daughters and a son.

In the mid 90’s Lord Swinfen was working in Bangladesh, Dhaka at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of Paralysed, and on his return home he met an Army Surgeon. They discussed about transmitting images for medical diagnosis, he took this initiative on board that lead forming the Swinfen Charitable Trust UK (for Telemedicine) in 1998. Beside being the founder and Director of this Trust Lord Swinfen is also associated with numerous Trusts, and institutions in his capacity as a president, patron, fellow and a member.

This Trust was set up by Lord and Lady Swinfen with the aim of assisting poor, sick and disabled people in the developing world by way of establishing Telemedicine links. Since its establishment it has been facilitating the service through a secure web-based messaging system to more than 234 hospitals in over 68 countries (including Nepal) with the assistance of over 513 globally renowned surgeons and consultants. This is indeed an outstanding achievement.

It is a great privilege to the members of Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj UK and its extended community in Nepal to have associated with Rt Honourable Lord Swinfen, Lady Swinfen and the Swinfen Charitable Trust. The Trust is sponsoring for the establishment of Char Bhanjyang Centre for Health to provide telemedicine link. A building is now under construction. During her recent visit to Nepal Lady Swinfen the co-director of the Trust formally laid the foundation stone.  The Trust has provided a handsome amount of £30,000 for this project. The community extend their humble gratitude for their generosity and continued support. During her visit to Nepal Lady Swinfen has visited a clinic (health post) at Phalewas and the District Hospital at Kusma, Parbat. They will also be supported by the Trust. There is no doubt a large number of people will be benefiting from this service in the future and many lives will be saved.

The members Char Bhanjyang are profoundly happy  to have known that Lord and Lady Swinfen has graciously accepted to become honorary life members of Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj UK. Their kindness have even brought us closer, they are now one of us. This is indeed a great honour for CBTS (UK).
